So I got some new somewhat idm-relevant albums today and I thought I'd
share my thoughts.
Tortoise - Standards
This is good stuff. I was listening to TNT before I went and picked up
this disc and its definitely a different direction. It kinda reminds
me of some of the most recent Isotope 217 material (live and
recorded). Maybe that has something to do with Tortoise's lineup sort
of becoming more and more the same as Isotopes. Anyway, Tortoise
scores some IDM points with neat processed drums, clicks and pops here
and there. Way to go! Also, its still the same old Tortoise, so if
you are like me, thats good.
Ladytron - 604
I picked this up impulsively because they are opening for Senor Coconut
next month and I figured 'what the fuck?'. So its pretty good. The
music is catchy and the quirky lyrics are kind of like if Kraftwerk
were a whole lot less awkward and better aquainted with English in
general. Some of the music reminds me a bit of I am Spoonbender except
the beats are generally more bouncy (with some electro stuff too).
Anti Pop Consortium - Diagnol Ryme Garganchula 2.0
Well, basically, this is more from the pages of last years Tragic
Epilogue... and its totally rad. If you need more Antipop like I
always seem to, pick it up. Its cheap and short, but the liner notes
say a full length and video anthology or something are on the way.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my inarticulate impressions after the
first listens of todays new buys.
